To-Do List for your Wedding

  • Set a realistic budget with your spouse and/or parents.

  • Choose engagement ring

  • Announce engagement

  • Consult with bridal consultant

  • Decide on wedding date. Depending on the time of year and lead time you may have to set your date based on reception and/or ceremony site availability.

  • Consult with your clergy (applicable if pre-wedding counselling is required by your church)

  • Choose and book officiator

  • Choose and book wedding site

  • Choose and book reception site

  • Choose and book caterer if not provided by reception site

  • Choose and book photographer and videographer

  • Choose your china, crystal and silver patterns and register them in the bridal gift registry of a reputable department store.

  • Compile guest list

  • Choose and notify groomsmen and bridal attendants

  • Choose and book entertainment for reception

  • Choose and book vocalist and/or musicians for wedding service

  • Select and reserve tuxedos and notify all groomsmen and fathers of bride and groom

  • Reserve tents, rental tables, chairs, etc., if necessary

  • Choose and purchase going-away outfit

  • Book hotel accommodations for wedding night

  • Choose and order wedding cake if not provided by caterer

  • Consult with authorities regarding blood tests, if required by your state

  • Have final gown fittings

  • Have engagement picture made. If you choose to have your engagement picture published in the newspaper submit a photograph to the newspaper.

  • Choose and book facility for rehearsal party

  • Choose and book restaurant for bridesmaids luncheon

  • Finalize menu with caterer

  • Choose and purchase gifts for groomsmen, ushers and bridal attendants

  • Reserve accommodations for out of town guests

  • Send announcement to newspaper

  • Contact and confirm bookings with officiator, florist,photographer, videographer, reception entertainers, vocalists and/or musicians for ceremony

  • Contact and confirm bookings with limousine service and everyone else involved with the wedding

  • Set appointment with hairdresser and cosmetologist for bride and bridesmaids

  • Send change of address notice to Post Office

  • Take delivery of gown and accessories

  • Arrange reception seating and write place cards

  • Be sure the date, time and place are clearly understood by all concerned

  • Shop for clothing needed on honeymoon

  • Obtain Marriage license

  • Notify caterer of final guest count

  • Wrap gifts for groomsmen, ushers and bridal attendants

  • Reconfirm details with caterer with final guest count

  • If you choose to have your wedding photograph published, submit a 5x7 black and white glossy photograph to the newspaper

  • Reconfirm appointment with hairdresser and cosmetologist for bride and bridesmaids

  • Make arrangements for someone to check your home on wedding day and on honeymoon

  • Buy Traveler's Checks

  • Hold the bridesmaids luncheon

  • Pack for honeymoon

  • Confirm all travel and honeymoon arrangements

  • Have rehearsal at wedding site with officiator and all members of bridal party, including vocalists and musicians

  • Hold rehearsal dinner

  • Present gifts to groomsmen, ushers and bridal attendants

  • Make arrangements for someone to deliver your wedding gown to professional dry cleaner for cleaning and storage while you are on your honeymoon

  • Reconfirm arrangements with limousine service

  • Prepare your wedding announcements and arrange for them to be mailed on day following wedding

  • Buy everything (ie. film, sun block, toiletries, etc.) you will need for honeymoon

  • Find a quiet time and thank your parents, friends and anyone else who helped make your wedding day one to remember for the rest of your life

  • Bride and bridesmaids meet with hairdresser and cosmetologist and dress
